Itinerary
Friday 30th November
Depart from Paradise Circus, Copthorne Bus Interchange at 08:15 and travel to Salisbury with a comfort stop en-route.
In Salisbury there will be free time to either look round the magnificent Cathedral standing within a walled courtyard. Started in 1220 the main part of the cathedral was built within 38 years. The Cathedral boasts the tallest tower and spire in the country at 403 feet high. Alternatively you can visit the city with its varied architecture from tudor through to present day. A number of ancient inns with their timber frames and overhanging gables may be hard to resist.
After the visit to Salisbury we drive South to Hayling Island where we will be staying at the Langstone Hotel.
Saturday 1st December
After Breakfast we take a leisurely drive into the New Forest.
First stop will be Bucklers Hard where wooden sailing ships were once built. Its proximity to the forest meant that there was an abundance of wood to build these mighty ships. Our visit includes admission to the Maritime Museum and the 18th century village.
After lunch (not included) we travel through the forest driving through Brockenhurst to Lyndhurst considered to be the capital of the New
Forest. Here we will have a stop of approximately 2 hours to give time to have a look round at leisure and perhaps have a cup of tea before we re-board the coach and return to our hotel
Sunday 2nd December
The highlight of the weekend is when we visit the Historic Docks in Portsmouth. This weekend is a special event in the Calendar as the docks will take on a Victorian Christmas Theme. So in addition to the normal exhibits which will be open to the public there will also be stalls and sideshows to keep you amused. Admission into the Docks is included in the holiday price. Next door to the Dockyard is the Spinnaker where you can take a ride to the top and look out over Portsmouth and the dockyard. Entrance to the Spinnaker is not included in your holiday but you may want to add it to the end of the day before returning to the hotel. (please note once you leave the dockyard you will not be able to get back in without buying another ticket).
Monday 3rd December
Leaving the hotel we travel to the Cathedral City of Chichester. Chichester is one of England's oldest towns that now has a
careful blend of old and modern buildings. Note particularly the rather elegant Market Cross built in 1501. The Cathedral dates from the 12th century replacing an earlier building that is now submerged under the waves off Selsey Bill. Desecrated by the Puritans and 3 fires during its life it still remains essentially a building of the 12th and 13th Centuries.
In the early afternoon we re-board our coach and return to Birmingham arriving approximately at 6:30 p.m.
Our Hotel: Langstone Hotel
The 4* Langstone Hotel has recently undergone a £2m refurbishment. Located on the shore of Langstone Water it commands some very picturesque views.
