Saturday 5th December: A Dickensian Festival in Suffolk

Departing from Birmingham at about 7:45am. The coach heads East towards Suffolk with a comfort stop on the way.
Around mid-day we arrive at Kentwell Hall. Kentwells' Dickensian Festival is something very special. The Hall may have Tudor origins but today it relives the period that we now call Dickensian. The scene is 1869 when Captain and Mrs Bence lived there. The hall is decorated in the period and the family are entertaining their guests in the Great hall. You can visit the Kitchens where the feast is being prepared.
Take care when you meet the housekeeper she is recruiting staff, even though there are more staff in and around the hall than the number of members of the household. Upstairs there is an abridged version of the "Christmas Carol" being narrated by Mr Dickens himself aided by Scrooge and other characters to make the story come alive. Look out for the ghosts that magically appear.
Captain Bence has organised a Music Hall to not only entertain his own guests but also workers on the estate and Villagers alike. After being entertained slip down to the Rose and Crown Tavern in the woods for a quick drink with the locals.
Please note that the staff around the Hall are mainly actors who will be performing as if they were from the Dickensian Period. In order not to confuse the staff and visitors and spoil the atmosphere, visitors are requested not to wear Victorian Dress during their visit. The performance of "Christmas Carol" and the "Music Hall and Magic Show" take place on the first floor, access to which is via stairs only (no lift
Leaving Kentwell Hall we head into Norfolk to our hotel on the edge of Kings Lynn.

Monday 7th December: Homeward bound with a Hoot

Departing the Hotel our homeward journey will have 2 stops before arriving back in the City Centre.
The first stop is at Baytree Garden Centre on the outskirts of Spalding. Although there is an opportunity for a little retail therapy and to visit their restaurant the main purpose of the visit is to visit the small Owl and Wildlife Centre that contains over 100 Owls and Falcons.
Our second stop is the Historic town of Oundle in Northamptonshire. The town is famous for its Georgian Streetscapes and Limestone Buildings. It is an ideal place to stretch your legs and have a cup of coffee before the last leg of the journey back to Birmingham. As well as Coffee Shops the town boasts a number of independent retailers providing last minute shopping ideas that you will not necessarily see in the big chain stores.
Returning to Birmingham our aim is to arrive the City Centre after the rush hour at approximately 7pm hoping the M6 treats us kindly.
