Saturday 5th December: A Christmas Hoot in Spalding
Departing from Birmingham at about 9am. The coach heads East towards Norfolk.
After a brief comfort stop the coach heads for Spalding for a lunch stop at Baytree Garden Centre. As well as being a nice garden centre there s a nice Restaurant or if you want something lighter a coffee shop to keep you going for the rest of the day.
Integral within the Garden Centre is an Owl and Wildlife Centre. One of the oldest such Centres in the area having been in existence for some 30 years. The collection contains over a 100 birds. Entrance to the Owl and Wildlife Centre is included in your tour.
Leaving Baytree we head deeper into Norfolk to our hotel on the edge of Kings Lynn.
Sunday 6th December: Dickensian Festival at Kentwell Hall
Kentwell's Dickensian Festival is something very special. The Hall may have Tudor origins but today it relives the period that we now call Dickensian.
The scene is 1869 when Captain and Mrs Bence lived there. The hall is decorated in the period and the family are entertaining their guests in the Great hall. You can visit the Kitchens where the feast is being prepared.
Take care when you meet the housekeeper she is recruiting staff, even though there are more staff in and around the hall than the number of members of the household.
Upstairs there is an abridged version of the "Christmas Carol" being narrated by Mr Dickens himself aided by Scrooge and other characters to make the story come alive. Look out for the ghosts that magically appear.
Not only are the guests being entertained = in the Hall, but Captain Bence has organised a Music Hall and Tavern to not only entertain his own guests but also people on the estate and Villagers alike. After being entertained slip down to the Rose and Crown Tavern in the woods for a quick drink
Please note that the staff around the Hall are mainly actors who will be performing as if they were from the Dickensian Period. In order not to confuse the staff and visitors and spoil the atmosphere visitors are requested not to wear Victorian Dress during their visit.
Please Note that the performance of "Christmas Carol" and the "Music Hall and Magic Show" take place on the first floor, access to which is via stairs only (no lift)
Monday 7th December: Kings Lynn and Thursford Christmas Spectacular
Monday Morning is yours to do as you please. The hotel is on the edge of Kings Lynn and easily accessible by taxi or bus (bus stop is about 5-10 minute walk from the hotel).
Dinner today will be late afternoon after which the coach will take you to Thursford for the evening performance of Thursford's Christmas Spectacular. On arrival the court yard is all illuminated with coloured lights, there are shops where you can buy your Christmas goodies and a cafe to get a drink before the show. Inside the auditorium the room is decorated to become a magical place a great setting for the show. When the show starts it is one glittering spectacular from start to finish, music galore, a specialty act and a comedian compere to link things together.
Coaches from all parts of the United Kingdom head for Thursford year on year which is a great testament to the show.
Tuesday 8th December: Homeward bound
Load the cases onto the coach and head towards Rutland. Today is going to be very slow pace so sit back and enjoy the scenery or perhaps catch up on some sleep during the journey.
The journey home will be punctuated by a lunch stop (lunch not included) in Uppingham in the County of Rutland. Time to have a meal and stretch your legs in this picturesque town before re-boarding the coach for the journey back to Birmingham.
We estimate being back in Birmingham late afternoon.
