Monday 3rd December: Bury St Edmunds

Depart Birmingham and head for Bury St Edmunds with a comfort stop on the way.
Bury St Edmonds is a Historic Town often considered as “The Gem of Suffolk”. It contains the ruins of a Medieval Benedictine Monastery, dedicated to St Edmunds, which can be seen in the Abby Gardens (free to enter). Next Door is St Edmunds Cathedral originally built in the 11th Century and re-built in both the 12th and 16th Centuries and in 2000 it gained a tower, new cloisters and a chapel. The Discovery Centre attached to the Cathedral is worth spending some time in. (Both are free to enter - donations are welcome). If shopping is your thing then the town has a number of independent traders together with many household names. Look down some of the side streets to find the more independent boutiques and hand crafted goodies.
Leaving Bury St Edmunds we head to our hotel in the City of Norwich.

Tuesday 4th December: Thursford Christmas Spectacular

The morning is yours to explore the City of Norwich. A local bus service provides a regular service into the City Centre. Explore the Cathedral and the cobbled streets in what is dubbed the “Cathedral Quarter”, or take in the City Centre still laid out in the medieval street pattern . There is also a Catholic Cathedral of St John the Baptist which is a fine example of a Gothic Revival Architecture. Norwich’s 900 year old Castle houses the Museum and Art Gallery (entrance fee to get in is £8.70 Senior, £9.15 adult).
Dinner today will be served late afternoon in the hotel. Then it is off to Thursford for the evening performance of the Thursford Christmas Spectacular (see video trailer). A truly magical performance which enthralls thousands each year. It has been described as the best variety show to be seen at Christmas Time anywhere in the United Kingdom. Testament to this is the number of coaches from all over the country flock here every year. This year we have obtained top price seats in the front few rows of the theatre.

Wednesday 5th December: Cruise on the Broads

Travel to Wroxham where we will board a river boat for a cruise on the Broads. Included in the River Trip will be Mince Pies and Mulled Wine. After leaving the boat we will take a drive through the Norfolk Broads before returning to our hotel.

Thursday 6th December: Ely

Departing the hotel we drive to the City of Ely. Most people will make there way into the Cathedral part of which is free to enter, but there is a charge for parts of the building including the Museum of Stained Glass. For the Cathedral and Stained Glass Museum the fee is £12 adult and £9 seniors. For the Cathedral alone it is £9 and £6 respectively.
The Cathedral dates back some 900 years and has the 4th longest Nave in England. The Cathedral is unique in having an Octagon Tower with a
lantern above.
The other notable place to visit in Ely is Oliver Cromwell's House a timber framed building in St Mary’s Street. Inside you can visit a number of rooms where they have re-created what life would be like in the period when he was Lord Protector . There is also an exhibition dedicated to telling the story of the Civil War. You can even visit Mrs Cromwell's Kitchen.
Leaving Ely we return to Birmingham arriving about 4:30p.m.

"On behalf of our group, may I express our sincere thanks for a really lovely break in Kent. The days in Rochester and Canterbury were very enjoyable. How the ladies coped in their voluminous Dickensian dresses and high brimmed hats. In the gusty wind, I don't know! The weather was kind to us, and the hotel accommodation was excellent,"
